Cookie Policy

Last updated: April 11, 2026 · Applies to salesense.co and the SaleSense widget

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to work more efficiently, and to provide information to website owners. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixel tags — this policy covers all of them.

Under EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC, as implemented nationally), the UK PECR, and US state privacy laws including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), we are required to inform you of the cookies we use and obtain your consent for non-essential cookies before they are placed.

2. Who Sets These Cookies?

This Cookie Policy covers two distinct contexts:

  • salesense.co (our website and dashboard): Cookies set directly by SaleSense when you visit our marketing site, use the merchant dashboard, or sign in to your account.
  • The SaleSense chat widget (on merchant storefronts): If you interact with a SaleSense-powered chat widget on a third-party store, that widget may use local storage on the merchant's domain. The merchant is responsible for their own cookie consent. Refer to that merchant's privacy policy for details.

3. Cookies We Use on salesense.co

We use the following cookies on our website and dashboard:

3.1 Strictly Necessary / Essential Cookies

These cookies are required for the website to function and cannot be disabled. They are set in response to actions you take, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or completing a form. Under GDPR Article 6(1)(b) and (f), these cookies are processed on the basis of contractual necessity and legitimate interest.

3.3 Analytics Cookies

SaleSense does not currently use third-party analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics) on salesense.co. We use server-side analytics that do not require cookies or tracking pixels. This may change in the future, and we will update this policy and obtain your consent before doing so.

3.4 Marketing / Advertising Cookies

SaleSense does not currently use any advertising or retargeting cookies. We do not engage in behavioural advertising, sell your data to ad networks, or track you across other websites.

4. Local Storage (SaleSense Widget)

The SaleSense chat widget, when embedded on a merchant's website, uses the browser's localStorage (not cookies) to store a random anonymous visitor ID. This ID:

  • Is randomly generated — it is not linked to any personal account or identity
  • Is used solely to associate your chat messages within a single conversation session
  • Is stored only on the merchant's domain — SaleSense does not cross-site track visitors
  • Can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's local storage or browsing data

The legal basis for this processing is the merchant's legitimate interest in providing a functional chat experience (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

5. Your Rights and Choices

5.1 Cookie Consent Banner. When you first visit salesense.co, we display a cookie consent banner. You may choose to accept all cookies or only essential cookies. You may change your preferences at any time by clicking the cookie settings icon in the footer.

5.2 Browser Settings. Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, delete existing cookies, or alert you when cookies are being set. Note that disabling essential cookies may affect the functionality of our Service. You also have the right to data portability and the right to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, contact support@salesense.co. To exercise these rights, contact support@salesense.co.

6. Third-Party Cookies

At this time, SaleSense does not allow any third parties to set cookies on salesense.co through our platform. We embed content from Google (for OAuth sign-in only) — Google may set cookies during the OAuth flow. For details, see Google's Privacy Policy.

7. International Data Transfers

Cookies and the data they contain may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where data is transferred from the EU/EEA to third countries, we rely on appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission. For more information, see our Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where required by law, by obtaining fresh consent. Your continued use of our website after such changes constitutes acceptance.
